This is an all new Gmax model of the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

Created by Kirk Olsson

The LOCKHEED MARTIN F-16 Fighting Falcon (VIPER) by Kirk Olsson

This aircraft is for use in FS2002 and FS2004. .

  September 2003 INSTALLATION:

***** (FS2004 main folder is named Flight Simulator 9) *****

1.) COPY & PASTE the VIPER folder to your FS2002/04 aircraft folder.

2.) COPY & PASTE the contents of the effects folder to your FS2002/04 effects folder.

3.) COPY & PASTE the contents of the gauges folder to your FS2002/04 gauges folder.

4.) The panel.cfg I have included is made to work seamlessly

with Eric Marciano's freeware F-16 panel. My Virtual Cockpit

requires several of the gauges from it as well.

a.)  download direct from link below:

c.) You can get to the simviation website through the link below:

https://www.simviation.com/menu.html

d.) Follow all the directions included with Eric Marciano's panel.

(Remember to use the PANEL.CFG I've included with my F-16)

Optional:

5.) In FS2004 there will be no afterburner visible. However, my F-16 is configured to use DSB's Typhoon afterburner effect, though it is not included with my plane. If you already have the DSB Typhoon installed then their burner effect will be visible with my F-16. If you don't have the DSB Typhoon installed then you can get it by following the directions below.

Figure F-16 with DSB's Typhoon burner effect installed

a.) Download DSB's TYPHOON. It can be found at the simviation website in the FS2002 military aircraft section page 39. Or you can download it direct from the Simviation website using the link below.

c.) The afterburner effect ( fx_klight.fx ) located in the folder named effect for afterburner is meant to be used in conjunction with DSB's Euro Fighter TYPHOON afterburner effect. Put this effect in the main Flight Simulator 02/04 effects folder only after installation of DSB's Typhoon.

6.) If you don't like the default wing vapor effect. You can replace it with a wingtip vapor effect by using the aircraft.cfg provided in the ALT aircraft.cfg folder.

7.) If your using this plane with FS2002. Then you may want to use the canopy glass texture located in the folder named (Glass texture for FS2002). Just move the texture named glass_t to this aircraft's texture folder. This texture will reduce the amount of reflection the glass has in fs2002.

DIRECTIONS:

1. (Shift+E) opens canopy

2. (O) key turns on and off tailfin light.

3. (Shift+L) turns on and off green ambient cockpit light.

4. (Ctrl+L) turns on and off landing lights.

5. (L) turns on and off all lights.

6. (G) controls the gear.

7. (/) controls airbrake.

8. (F5,F6,F7,F8) controls flaps

9. (F1,F2,F3,F4) control the throttle, though it's much easier to fly if you

have a joystick with a throttle control of it's own.

10. (shift+t or what ever your tail hook key is set to) animates lantirn pod lens.

11. Wing Vapor will only appear when aircraft is below 12,000 feet pulling hard G forces.

My F-16 can be found under the manufacturer title of Lockheed Martin.

KNOWN ISSUES and FRAME RATE PERFORMANCE

1.) Some of the textures become blurred when pressing the ALT key, when memory becomes low or switching from a Windowed screen to Full screen and vice versa. Usually zooming in on the aircraft really close and then back out again will correct this.

2.) The strobe lights on the air intake should blink in sequence with each other, but sometimes they get out of sync. To fix this you must turn the lights on and off repeatedly (by pressing the L key) until they are back in sync.

3.) Landing light illumination must be manually turned off when gear is retracted. (By pressing Ctrl+L)

4.) If afterburner animation isn't working or the afterburner effect doesn't show up at all (in fs2002), reloading the aircraft from the aircraft menu should fix it. Also no afterburner flame will be viewable in FS2004. You'll need the afterburner effect included with Frame Rate performance

Many things may affect the frame rate:

1.) THE LIGHTS . All lighting on this F-16 is real time lighting. Meaning, there not painted textures to look like night lighting, but rather they are being lit by the lighting effect itself. This can affect the frame rate especially when the landing light's are on, but they look much more realistic.

2.) GAUGE QUALITY. Setting the gauge quality to low will increase frame rates with little loss in image quality. (You can located this setting by pressing

Main MENU>OPTIONS>SETTINGS>DISPLAY and then select aircraft)

3.) Ground scenery shadows. Turning this option off can really speed up the frame rates.

  Payload Weights

These are guesstimate weights of the different payloads for the

F-16. If you know the correct ones then you can use those. If not, then the weights below will give you something to work with.

Weight's for FS9 aircraft Payload modifier:

2500 lb --- Center Fuel Tank -------- ----- ------ -----------

3300 lb --- Wing Mounted Fuel Tank -------- ----- ------

180 lb --- Sidewinders -------- ----- ------ ----- ----- --------

310 lb --- HARM Missile -------- ----- ------ ----- ----- -----

1000 lb --- GBU Bomb -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ ----- ----- --------- ----- --------

350 lb --- ECM Pod -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ ---390 lb --- LANTIRN Pod -------- ----- ------ ----- ----- -----

-------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ ----- ----- -----200 lb --- AMRAAM Missile -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ ----- ----- ---------------- 500 lb --- JDAM Bomb -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------ -------- ----- ------

Takeoff and Landing Tips

These are guidelines that may help you when taking off and landing in my F-16. They will vary depending upon aircraft weight. You can use the payload modifier in fs2004 to change the weights

  Figure Viper takeoff

TAKEOFF:

1. Fully extend flaps (F8).

2. Activate parking brake and push throttle to full power. Hold brake for 2-3 seconds (to build up power).

3. Release brake and rotate at 125-135 knots.

Landing:

1. Reduce speed to 340 knots with airbrake (/).

2. Extend Flaps to full (F8). Adjust speed with throttle and airbrake to stay on glide slope.

3. Approach runway around 200 knots.

4. Just before the runway at about 165 knots extend airbrake (/), pitch nose up and increase throttle to slow descent.

5. Cut throttle and touchdown between 145-155 knots.

6. Hold positive nose pitch until speed has been reduced to between 130-140 knots. Then slowly lower the nose and apply brake between 100-120 knots.

Repaints and modifications:

Though I most likely will be releasing repaints of my own. You are welcome to repaint or make any modifications to this F-16 as long as they remain freeware and you acknowledge that you modified my plane.

Thank you.

And Enjoy!
