Parks s-a nascut in Fort Knox, Kentucky
intr-o familie de militari. Si-a petrecut o
parte din copilarie in Germania, acolo unde au fost incartiruite trupele din
care faceau parte si parintii ei, si a urm 434d37e at scoala si liceul German, in loc sa
urmeze scoala Engleza special creata pentru copii militarilor. Experienta
aceasta, o va face pe Parks sa-si deschida mintea si sufletul, intr-un mod
diferit fata de cel in care ar fi facut-o, probabil, in Statele Unite. Dincolo
de invatarea limbii straine - germana si a limbii engleze in acelasi timp,
Parks nu a mai avut senzatia unui copil de culoare, inconjurata de albi, sau
inconjurata de alti copii de culoare ci pur si simplu sentimentul ca era un
copil "strain".
