Master of Arts in Arts Administration

Arts administration is a challenging, exciting, and ever-developing field. It involves the management, in the broadest sense, of arts institutions of every type. It can be instrumental in developing the cultural life of towns, cities, and regions as well as rural areas; it can strengthen the economics of an area through employment, production, and tourism. The true arts administrator must, of course, have a true devotion to the arts. Beyond this, it is critical to develop sens 11511c223l itivity to the cultural needs, community issues and growth potential of a region; this can help the administrator not only to make a major contribution by expanding the enlightenment and pleasure which the arts can offer, but can stimulate the essential sources of support.

The Goucher College limited-residency Master of Arts in Arts Administration (MAAA) offers an opportunity to students, living anywhere, to gain further knowledge and credentials for a major profession. Studying with a highly professional faculty, students can acquire skills which will make them valuable in the field. A practical component is the internship, from which the final required paper is developed.

On-campus residency requirements involve two weeks in a minimum of three consecutive summers, spent on the Goucher campus. All other course work will be offered by means of various forms of communication, including electronic. Drawn from the profession across the country, the faculty usually have no more than eight students in each course. With personalized attention, and with experienced inspiration, students will develop the potential to move into positions of rewarding responsibility.

Admission to the program is granted to selected applicants whose academic and professional qualifications give promise of success in self-directed graduate study. The applicant must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and have a minimum of two years paid or volunteer post-baccalaureate work experience.
