Na de markt voor desktops en notebooks is nu ook die voor de Pocket PC volwassen geworden. Waren er in het begin slechts universele modellen waar alle soorten gebruikers het mee moesten doen, nu wordt de markt steeds meer verdeeld in segmenten. Zo richten de nieuwe HP iPAQ h6340 en hx4700 zich op de specifieke behoeften van de mobiele professional, terwijl de iPAQ rx3715 – met zijn uitgebreide multimediamogelijkheden – speciaal voor de consument is ontwikkeld. Ook is er een vriendelijk geprijsd instapmodel, de HP iPAQ rz1710.
Momenteel is HP in Europa, Midden-Oosten en Afrika de grootse leverancier van handheld computers met een marktaandeel dat ten opzichte van vorig jaar is gegroeid met 64 procent. HP heeft deze positie nu voor het vierde achtereenvolgende kwartaal met een marktaandeel van 28 procent voor datacentrische handheld computers. In Nederland is het marktaandeel van HP gegroeid tot 59% (Canalys, Q1 2004).
iPAQ’s voor de mobiele professional
Met de nieuwe HP iPAQ h6340 richt HP zich meer dan ooit op de specifieke behoeften van de mobiele professional. Deze Pocket PC zorgt voor de convergentie van spraak en data met geďntegreerde quad-band GSM/GPRS, WLAN en Bluetooth draadloze technologie. De zakelijke iPAQ-platforms van HP stellen de gebruiker in staat draadloos bedrijfsgegevens op te vragen en e-mails te synchroniseren, sneller, veiliger en met meer grafische mogelijkheden.
De h6340 biedt een beheersbare en veilige toegang tot bedrijfsgegevens, e-mail en Internet. Deze iPAQ kan automatisch verbinding maken met het snelste beschikbare netwerk. Als de verbinding voortijdig wordt verbroken, schakelt het apparaat automatisch over op een ander netwerk. Indien de e-mailfunctie is gekoppeld met Microsoft Exchange 2003, kunnen e-mails, bijlagen en agenda-updates automatisch naar de h6340 worden gestuurd en gesynchroniseerd via een Wi-Fi of GPRS netwerk.
De nieuwe HP iPAQ hx4700 is de eerste Pocket PC met een touchpad en een muisachtige cursor, waardoor navigeren zeer eenvoudig is. Het 4” VGA scherm maakt het mogelijk om presentaties – bijvoorbeeld gemaakt met PowerPoint – te bekijken, zonder dat deze moeten worden aangepast aan de grootte van het scherm. Daarbij is de hx4700 de eerste pocket pc met HP ProtectTools. Deze tools beveiligen de gegevens met behulp van versleuteling en waarmerking.
De HP iPAQ rz1710 is een kleine, gestroomlijnde en vooral goedkope pocket pc die de gebruiker alle essentiële mobiele computerfuncties biedt.
iPAQ voor multimedia
De iPAQ rx3715 Mobile Media Companion is de eerste pocket pc van HP die zich speciaal richt op multimediamogelijkheden, en daarmee op de privégebruiker. De rx3715 biedt de gebruiker de mogelijkheid om muziek en video te downloaden van de eigen pc, online te beluisteren of door te sturen naar andere audio/videocomponenten. Ook kunnen foto’s worden gemaakt, gedownload, bekeken, gedeeld met andere gebruikers en draadloos geprint.
